One possible stumbling block would be that this little tube amp doesn't have a preamplifier tube section, only a 6EU7 double triode serving as individual drivers for each 6BQ5 output tube. One possible solution would be to install a 7-pin preamp tube such as a 6AV6, wired up like the Fender Harvard circuit. The RCA's power transformer should have enough current capability to handle adding one low-draw tube like that. Another possibility is completely rewiring the RCA's circuit to: 1/2 of the 6EU7 as 1st gain stage preamp, into the other half of the 6EU7 as a common output driver, then into the grids of each/both 6BQ5 - that's a lot of work though.

The simplest thing to do would be to get a cheap tube preamp such as an ART, and then wire that up to the inputs of the RCA. I've done just that, with good results, hooking up keyboards to Leslie cabs that only had a power amp, and no preamp.

Best of luck, and have fun!James Aoyamahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14290789717443541572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8600101050837366134.post-79400381009411536972021-11-26T04:03:02.112-08:002021-11-26T04:03:02.112-08:00Thank you for the detailed description of your wor...Thank you for the detailed description of your work! I have rescued the same amp and tubes from a console on the side of the road put out for the trash. I'm thinking of attempting to make this into a guitar amplifier. I'll let you know how it goes!Kyle Bollendorfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14861387760660638207noreply@blogger.com
